The training institute was established as a peripatetic hill range training school before 1943 under the then Madras Presidency as a bilingual institution and was both at Gunupur and Pravatipuram (now in Andhra Prades) in each training year alternatively. In 1943 this Gurukul was established as a regular institution at Bebarta Street, Gunupur without it’s own building. At this critical juncture the legendry Pandit Neelanmani Panigrahi had donated one and half acres of landed property which fixed its permanent location. From E.T. school, our institution was upgraded as Secondary Training School in 1973. And the Secondary Training School was further upgraded to Block Institute of Education and Training (BIET) in 2014 under the Directorate of TE & SCERT, Bhubaneswar, Odisha under the Department of School and Mass Education, Government of Odisha. This institute provides pre-service training i.e. Diploma in Elementary Education to only SC & ST students of Rayagada District. Now we have an intake capacity of 100 students in each year, out of which 80 seats are earmarked for ST and 20 seats are earmarked for SC community. This Institute was founded with the goal of transforming teacher education and is enhancing the quality of primary education in the region. BIET is proud to have trained over 4000 pupils teachers who are teaching in different schools of the state and working as social reformers and producing the a good human being. With a focus on digital literacy and inclusive education, the institute continues to evolve, preparing teachers for the challenges of the 21st-century classroom. As we look to the future, this institute remains committed to expanding its reach and deepening its impact.
